About EJF

Eternal Jewish Family Is Dedicated To Preserving The Authentic Jewish Family
The Eternal Jewish Family is an independent organization dedicated to the preservation of the authentic Jewish family, as is dictated by our Torah delivered to the Jewish nation on Mt. Sinai more than 3300 years ago. A primary focus of EJF is the halachic conversion of a non-Jewish spouse in an intermarriage.

To assure that all conversions are based on the authentic dictates of Torah and halacha, the Eternal Jewish Family follows the halachic guidelines of such noted Torah authorities as Harav Moshe Feinstein zt"l, Harav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach zt"l, Harav Yosef Sholom Eliyashuv shlit"a, Harav Shmuel Wosner shlit"a, Harav Reuven Feinstein shlit"a, as well as leading Sephardic authorities shlit"a.

The Eternal Jewish Family is affiliated with Horizons and the Kol Yaakov Torah Center of Monsey, New York. Founded 25 years ago under the inspiration of the late venerable sage Harav Yaakov Kaminetsky zt"l, Kol Yaakov has been a leading institution in the kiruv movement. Hundreds of its alumni have over the years assumed leadership positions in Jewish life throughout the world.

Conversions in Intermarriage

Almost one out of every two marriages of America's 5.2 million Jews ends in intermarriage, severely threatening the future of the Jewish people. In many such marriages, the non-Jewish spouse agrees to convert to Judaism, as part of a decision to raise a Jewish family. However, the majority of such conversions are invalid, from a halachic point of view and therefore not recognized by the leading Torah authorities.

When Jewish conversions do not follow the halachic requirements governing geirus, it may result in the questionable convert being given unwarranted entree into an unsuspecting Jewish community, the devastating impact of which the EJF has discovered throughout the Torah world. Thus, EJF strives mightily to protect Kedushas Yisroel by assuring that the conversion process for intermarried non-Jews will proceed with substantive guidelines in accord with the dictates of halacha - without compromise - as directed by the leading Torah authorities of past and present.

Conversions in an intermarriage are different from ordinary conversions, which, as is well known, according to halacha, must be vigorously discouraged. Leading Torah authorities, both past and current, have stated that the case of an intermarried couple, where the Jewish spouse is committed to becoming a fully observant Jew and the non-Jewish spouse is prepared to become a sincere and fully observant convert, must be responsibly addressed and not left to those involved in "revolving door" conversions that will ultimately have profound consequences for both the individual and the families.

EJF works only with couples referred by recognized Orthodox rabbis and kiruv professionals. In fact, many of these couples have already been victimized by fraudulent or problematic conversions. EJF does not solicit intermarried couples; nor does it perform conversions. It only refers couples to a Beis Din that enjoys universal recognition and uncompromising halachic standards.
